HEARTH of Henrico (formerly Interfaith Services of Henrico) began in 1983 by a staff member of the Henrico County Social Services Department and 13 area churches. The purpose of the organization was to provide a way that the churches could combine their resources to better serve people in need in Henrico County. HEARTH partnered with Henrico County Social Services Department as a means to distribute money and goods to the needy. The social workers would interview the clients that came to Social Services for assistance and determine their eligibility.
