HEARTH of Henrico, formerly Interfaith Services of Henrico (ISH) is a tax exempt, 501(c)3, faith based organization that exists to develop, to coordinate, and to make readily available financial and other resources of the community so that these resources may directly benefit Henrico citizens whose human needs are unmet by existing governmental services. HEARTH funds are used for rent/mortgage, utilities, camp scholarships, emergency fuel, and summer camp. HEARTH’s clients must meet certain eligibility requirements to obtain assistance and they must demonstrate a long term sustainability plan.
To HEARTH of Henrico, it’s not a hand-out; it’s a hand-up. In addition to several other efforts, HEARTH of Henrico helps families avoid homelessness, coordinates food drives for holiday meals for families in need and provides key assistance to foster children living in the County. HEARTH’s funding comes mostly from the religious community, but HEARTH has cultivated financial support over the years from some local businesses and civic organizations and there has been an increasing amount of support received by generous individuals in and out of Henrico County. 100% of all financial contributions that HEARTH receives are passed on to our clients. No administrative costs are taken from the contributions.
HEARTH of Henrico partners with the Henrico Social Services Department to distribute the funds. The HEARTH board has set guidelines for the distribution of the funds. Henrico social workers review the cases and determine the eligibility of the clients.
