Since ISH (now HEARTH of Henrico) began in 1983, we have provided more than $1,468,000.00 to over 8,520 Henrico families. With generous contributions from churches, businesses and individuals in Henrico County, we have helped with rent/mortgage, utilities, medications, student fees and clothing.**
**Recently the Housing Crisis Line referred a woman and her family who were homeless after her monies ran out. Henrico Department of Social Services (HDSS) worked with her to ensure the safety of her children until she entered a homeless shelter. She later contacted HDSS to confirm she had been accepted into public housing and needed $200. to secure that slot; HEARTH’s payment of $200 made it possible for her to secure stable housing for her and her family.
Unfortunately, over the past several years, contributions to HEARTH/ISH have been declining while the need for Henrico families in crisis has steadily increased.
Since 1983, through the generosity of the Henrico community, we have carried a comfortable balance in our account to help with emergency housing needs. Since 2014, our account balance has been steadily depleted, and has now reached a crisis level at the close of July 2018. Our monthly deficit ranges from $2,000 to $4,000, and without substantial donations prior to the end of this year, we will no longer have sufficient monies to help Henrico families.
We are very grateful for the financial gifts that you have provided in the past. We ask that you continue to keep HEARTH in in your outreach budget. We also ask you to consider increasing your gift so that we can continue the good work that HEARTH/ISH has done for decades to help the needy families in Henrico County.
